Text : Psalms 90 : 6 – 12 .
Reading :
6. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
- For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
- Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
- For all our days are passed away in thy wrath; we spend our years as a tale that is told.
- The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away.
- Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so it’s thy wrath.
- So teach us to number our day, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
INTRODUCTION : We all like Stories, we all also tell stories, telling stories about the past. When parents want their babies to sleep they tell stories to let the baby sleep.
Jesus Christ is the Best Story teller, many times He tell Story to stress His point, mostly in the Bible we call it Parable. We define a parable as Earthly Story with Heavenly meaning. Some of the interesting Bible stories or parables are the parables of the Shower, the prodigal son, the ten virgins, the story of the talents giving by a man travelling into a far country. Wow I love Stories.
One thing that is common about stories are that, the story teller can add or keep some stories depending on how he or she wants the story to go. What I mean is that we are in control of the story we want to tell or write about. Jesus Christ is the only one who tell the honest truth stories about heaven, so we need to believe the wonderful and master story teller.
We hear the word Biography or autobiography that is either you write about somebody or you write your own story this is subjected to manipulation or control of who is writing the story.
Sometimes the author will keep you in suspense , some stories end in Strategy or Comedy.
We should know that we have a limited time on this Earth because the word of God admonished us. Verse 7 says ” For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
Verse 8 ” Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
This morning I want to give you 3 Bible truths about our lives.
(1) Everybody writes his or her Story.
What ever you do today will be a story tomorrow. Your contributions to the work of God. Many of our members has traveled out of the Country, but we still remember them for what they have done when they were around .
In my mind I remember our brother Paul Effah, Mr and Mrs Kuze and there daughter, Jessica, Roland, Micelle, Solomon and many others who are still around that is in person of our able organizer Obiri, Mr. Charles and the family, the Dogbey family. With many that I can’t start mention your name one by one. What I know for sure is that, God knows you, and your labour is not in vain. He is the rewarder.
I just want to encourage you that keep on doing what you are doing, you are writing your life story on the record of the CALVARY INDEPENDENT BAPTIST CHURCH.
(2) Every Story involves God. We have biography and autobiography. This story can be manipulated by the author, but not with God.
This is not my friend or family, brother, sister, Church member or my Pastor writing your story. God Himself is the one writing and I want to assure you that no partiality. He love us equally. in Act 10 : 34 ” Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons “
God knows all lies you lie with your mouth, all the evil words that proceed out of your mouth, the places you shouldn’t have gone, things that are not good to take in to your mouth, all of these God knows and one day He will bring it out in Judgment.
Long time ago at my home church in Nigeria, our Sunday school teacher thought us a song ‘ Be careful my little eyes what you look at, be careful my little mouth what you say, be careful my little hands what you hold, there is one loving father in heaven who look down on you , be careful what ever you do’ this is my childhood song which l love so much.
Am saying to you that all our live stories involve God.
Not only that everybody is writing his or her story, and not only that every stories involve God but lastly,
(3) One day our story will told , There are many Bible characters we are talking about today, they all wrote their stories that’s what we are reading or studying today. Some stories end in Strategy , Judas came to mind, he should have asked for forgiveness he rather hanged himself; sad.
The story of a woman was told to us by the word of God, which means God Himself is telling the story.
In Matthew 26 : 7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of VERY PRECIOUS OINTMENT and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. In verse 13 “. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
Cain and Abel in Genesis 4 : 8, 9 from that time going Cain became the first murderer on this God’s Earth.
What about many Bible Characters with their wonderful stories..
Abraham, Jacob, Moses and Noah, Paul, Stephen, Peter, James and many others.
In conclusion , What story are you writing? How are you writing it? if you know that your life story has not been pleasing God you can start rewriting it when you are still alive.
God is God of SECOND CHANCE.
Pray to God to forgive you all your sins as you start writing your life story on a new page.
