TEXT: 1 Corinthians 1:2, 9, 24, 26.
BIBLE READING: 1 Corinthians 2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s:
9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
INTRODUCTION : Paul is telling these Believers –” You have been Called “
Have you ever had someone call your name? My dad — Samson — I was in trouble.
When someone calls us, it is for a reason. They need us. They have something for us to do.
God called many people in the Bible.
Abram was called to leave his home and go to a place.
Moses was called to deliver God’s people out of Egypt.
Samuel was called; God chose him to be a great prophet.
Jeremiah was called to be a prophet before he was born.
The 12 disciples were called by Jesus Christ to work with Him.
2 Timothy 1: 9 ” hath saved us and called us with an holy calling….”
Hebrew 3:1 ‘ Wherefore, holy brethren partakes of the heavenly calling….’
What a blessing thing it is to be called by God!
We have been called for a purpose, God has something for which He wants us to do for Him.
I have two points for you today about God’s calling:
(1) We have been called to walk with God.
Jesus said, “come unto me.. . I will give you rest”
God never intended for us to go through this life alone. He says to us
.” Come to me, and walk with me.”
Are you weary this morning? Are you burdened this morning? Are you discouraged? Are you overwhelmed? Are you troubled?
I have good news for you, God has called you to fellowship with Him and to walk with Him.
We fill up our lives with so many things; TV, radio, social media, work, schooling, time with friends but do we spend time with God? to build our relationship with Him ?
God is the one who satisfies, He is the source of joy, peace and love and invited us to come unto Him!.
(2) We’ve been called to work with God .
Look with me in Mathew 11 vs 29, 30 ( 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light).
What is a yoke? It is a bar or frame to join two animals to enable them to work together, it signifies servitude and burden is something carried, like a task or service.
We have been called unto the fellowship of Jesus Christ This fellowship is not only a call to be with Him, but it is also a call to work with Him.
He called us to take His yoke upon us, and to take His burden upon us. He says “come and work with me”.
This life is not a game. This life is not a vacation. No! We are called to be on a mission for God!.
1 Corinthians 3:9.” For we are labourers together with God….”
Ephesians 2: 10.” For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works….”.
We have been called to serve the King of Kings! We have been called to work with Him!
God has called us to work with Him to lead lost souls to Christ, Winning souls is a partnership, We preach the gospel while the Holy Spirit works in the heart. We work with God to help souls get saved.
Conclusion: We’ve been called, We have been called unto the fellowship of Jesus Christ, This is a call to walk with Him, to abide in Him, to read and meditate in his word, to talk to him in prayer. This is also to work with Him to dedicate our lives to serve Him and partner with Him to help lost souls be saved. AMEN.
