Text: Psalms 78 : 37-44.
37 – For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
38 – But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 – For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
40 – How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!
41 – Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
42 – They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.
43 – How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan.
44 – And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.
Introduction: Limiting also means restricted. Our God is not limited in His work and power, that is why we say He is all powerful.
Limiting God is to say He is not omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. We are to trust Him for our needs.
In the passages we read from Psalms 78 from verses 37 the scripture says the heart of God’s people was not right with him, Neither were they steadfast in God’s covenant, but God was full of compassion and forgave their iniquity. In verse 41 the Bible says the people turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy one of Israel.
This morning I want to give us 3 areas of our lives that we limit God.
- Inconsistent Christian living limiting God. We leave like an angel on Sunday but for the other days of the week we leave like children of the devil.
Isaiah 59 : 1,2 ( 1 Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear).and Jeremiah 5 : 25 (Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you). - Our lack of faith limits God. When we hear the preaching, we need to respond by doing something about the sermon. that is why the book of James admonish us not to be hearer alone that deceive himself or herself but we should be a Doer of the word.
Mark 6 : 5 (And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them). - Shallow and Selfish prayers limit God. We always pray bad things happen to our enemies. But God said we should pray for our enemies. In James 4 : 3 ( Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts). most of the time our prayer is for selfish interest.
To Conclude;
God knows our thoughts.
Our God is an unlimited God. Let us not look down on Him. What ever you are passing through, look up to Him, whether in Marriage, Finances, Sickness, Job talk to God and believe He can do it even more than you think He would do. That is if you don’t limit Him.
God bless us all.
Amen
